How to make friends in a new city โ€” one activity at a time

Moving somewhere new is exciting until you realise your usual friends are a long way away. Rather than relying on cold messages or random matches, start with an activity you would enjoy anyway. Event Master helps you look for public events in supported cities, from live music to workshops and social gatherings. Whether the local list is busy or empty, you can explore what is actually published or submit an idea for a public event to be reviewed.

Social features are for eligible adults (18+ pilot). Going is a plan, not verified presence. Event chat is conditional on event access and moderation.

Start with what you already enjoy

Think about the week you want to have, not the number of people you want to collect. A concert gives you music to talk about; a workshop gives you something to make; a local gathering offers a reason to return. Choose a public activity that fits your interests, budget and schedule, and confirm its venue and time before you set off.

Build a routine, not a one-night miracle

Meeting people after a move often takes repeated contact. Pick an activity you could attend again, leave space for conversations to happen naturally, and follow up only when the other person wants to. An introduction does not have to become a friendship immediately. Smaller, regular outings can feel more approachable than a packed party.

Discover city events without invented listings

Open a supported city page to see published, current public events. Different cities have different inventories and some may have none yet. An empty list is not evidence that nothing happens there; it means Event Master does not currently have a verified public listing to show. Browse the city or the main event finder rather than relying on fabricated recommendations.

Use event chat respectfully when available

For some events, eligible people who mark Going may join a pre-event conversation. It can help to ask if anyone wants to say hello near the entrance or meet for a drink at the venue bar. Going only expresses a plan to attend; it does not prove someone is on-site or willing to meet. Live chat can require separate authorised check-in. Respect a no, silence, and moderation rules.

What if your new city has no events yet?

You can still use the city's public landing page, explore the map or submit a public event suggestion for review. Submitting does not instantly publish an event, and you should not present an unreviewed idea as a confirmed gathering. You can also make a private invitation for your own guests, but private invitations and guest lists are not public event listings.

Make your first meetings comfortable

Choose a public venue and check practical details, including transport home. Tell someone you trust where you are going if you are meeting strangers. Do not assume other participants are single, available for dating or happy to exchange personal contact details. Use blocking and reporting if someone ignores boundaries.

Questions people ask

How do I make friends after moving to a new city?

Try recurring activities and public events built around something you enjoy. You may meet people there, but no app can promise a friendship or a particular number of attendees.

Can I find people to go to a concert with?

Some events offer a pre-event chat for eligible people who have marked Going. Participation and chat access vary. Going is not proof of attendance.

What if there are no events in my city?

You can still explore the city page and submit a public event suggestion for review. Event Master does not generate fake events just to fill an empty city.

Is Event Master a dating app?

It focuses on real-world event discovery and social connection around shared plans. It is not a swipe-based matchmaking service.
